Its the first week of football for The Chargers in their new home of Los Angeles and they come in after a heartbreaking last-second loss in Denver. Can they come back strong against the Hurricane-dodging Dolphins?
Miami – +3 1/2 (-110)
LA – -3 1/2 (-110)
Miami – (+160)
LA – (-180)
Total Over/Under – 45 1/2
Over – (-110)
Under – (-110)
Miami and LA come in with a very talented squad, so why are The Chargers favored here? Simply put, Jay Cutler. A career underperformer, Cutler is coming out of retirement from years of having varying weapons in Chicago and not producing wins. From Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Greg Olsen, Jordon Howard, Matt Forte, to now in Miami with Devante Parker, Jay Ajayi, Jarvis Landry, and Julius Thomas. There seems to be no reason things should be different for the quiet gunslinger. The only wrinkle for The Dolphins should be Ajayi, who produced 3 200 yard games last season.
On the other side, The Chargers are loaded with weapons, just not full of finish. Melvin Gordon is poised for a huge season and doesn’t see much in the way of pressure from a Dolphins defense. Phillip Rivers has all his weapons back at receiver with Keenan Allen catching passes again, and should be targeting Antonio Gates heavily in the red zone for the Record for most Touchdowns by a Tight End.
Even with the news that star Corner Back Jason Verrett will not play this weekend, The Chargers still boast a lot of talent on defense with Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram both notching 1.5 sacks last week against Denver.
The only notable point to be made with these odds is that LA is 1-18 when the score is within 3 in the last 3 minutes. So if Miami keeps it close towards the end of the game, it could spell disaster for bettors.
Miami Dolphins 14 – 24 LA Chargers
With two Offenses arguably as talented as the other, it comes down to the defenses. Miami Doesn’t put forward anyone of note other than Defensive Lineman Ndamukong Suh, Defensive End Cameron Wake, and Safety Rashard Jones. That simply isn’t enough against the LA firepower. On the other side, either Parker or Landry will see an uptick with Verrett out, but it won’t be enough to get past the talent at every level for The Chargers.
We are taking the Chargers -3 1/2 spread (-110) and Money Line (-180), and the Under 45 1/2 (-110).
