The new face of The Bay

Through the last two offseasons, Jimmy Garoppolo has been attached to most teams in trade scenarios. The trade deadline finally saw him move To the San Francisco 49ers.

after backing Tom Brady up for three and a half seasons, Garoppolo stepped in during Brady’s suspension last season and blew the tires off for his first two starts to the tune of 500 yards and 4 touchdowns and no interceptions. And this was a Gronkowski-less Patriots squad.

Now he steps into a San Francisco squad that is equally dry at a talent level, but he could turn things around. With less than a week to learn the offense, the chances we see Jimmy play this week against Arizona are slim, but with their bye following, we should see him make his debut week 11. And who knows, if CJ Beathard plays like he has been, we could see Garoppolo play by halftime.

So how does this affect the NFL?

Biggest is arguably Kurt Cousins and the Redskins. after spending the last few seasons on the franchise tag in Washington, most people came to the conclusion Cousins would reunite with Kyle Shannahan in San Francisco. Now Kurt is stuck in limbo, either forced to continue to battle Washington for a long-term deal or venture off to a club like Cleveland or Buffalo.

Speaking of Cleveland, no team could’ve used Jimmy Garoppolo’s talents quite like the Browns. While not proven over a long period of time, Garoppolo was one of the most exciting acts to watch while he was on the field. This leaves the Browns flopping for an answer at Quarterback with Kizer and Hogan struggling.

Without Jimmy backing up Tom Brady in New England, and the Patriots having traded their other talented backup Jacoby Brissett to take over the reigns in Indianapolis, the Pats have added former back up Brian Hoyer from San Francisco, a fun twist in what really a Quarterback swap for the clubs.

And of course, the 49ers. As previously written in our last article, San Francisco is a real threat to finish the season without a win. Now they will continue to lose games but have real potential to take wins away from clubs on the strength of Garoppolo’s game, and they should only get stronger as they add weapons for Jimmy during the offseason.
