Levante and Villareal close out the weekend as the last game welcoming Primera Liga back for another season. And while Levante is a fresh face in the top of the Liga totem pole having run rampant in Segunda Liga, The odds do not favor last years 5th overall Villareal as much as you may think.
Levante – (11/5)
Villareal – (11/8)
Draw – (11/5)
Goal Over/Under – 2.5
Over – (7/5)
Under – (8/15)
Both Teams to Score
Yes – (1/1)
No – (3/4)
It seems genuinely odd that the odds aren’t wider in different ways. While it takes a lot to climb to a promotion, The difference between #1 in Segunda and #5 in Primera is huge and should be reflected.
In Segunda, Levante flexed their muscle scoring 57 goals and totally a difference of +25. Their 84 league points were 14 more than the next closest, so they did deserve to move up. However, a few things to note; 3 of their last 6 games were losses, which was 38% of their whole loss total of 8.
The majority of their offense was funneled through two players as well, Roger Marti and Jason, who scored 22 and 10 respectively. No one on their club scored more than 3, and while double digit scorers are huge pluses, it’s yet to be seen how these two players fare against the stiffer competition. If these two can’t continue their domination, there’s little hope for Levante.
On the flip side, Villareal scored 56 in the very top-heavy Primera Liga, with a goal difference of +23. They allowed the second fewest goals in the league, which is huge with the kind of fire power running around Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The one big knock on Villareal in this fixture is they don’t have a major offensive threat, with only one player putting up double digits: Cédric Bakambu with 11. 9, 8, 5 and 5 were the next highest totals on the team.
Levante 0-1 Villareal
These close odds show an odd amount of faith in The Segunda Liga champs, but Villareal should show they aren’t as close to the promoted squad as Books think.
Villareal winning, No on both teams scoring, and Under 2.5 are our predictions.
