The Ligue 1 break for World Cup Qualifiers will end when 8th place Lyon kicks off against 2nd Place Monaco, and here’s a surprise: The odds favor Lyon. Let’s take a look at if their slight edge is warranted.
Lyon – (2.62)
Monaco – (2.70)
Draw – (3.20)
Goal Over/Under – 2.5
Over – (1.44)
Under – (2.70)
Both Teams to Score
Yes – (1.40)
No – (2.75)
While slight, there is an edge for Lyon, like it decided by a coin flip. In reality, Monaco is 6-1-1 with a +13 Goal difference and is only 1 game behind league leaders PSG. Part of the Lyon odds lead could be because Monaco suffered a 3-0 blow in Champions League group play to FC Porto, followed by a 1-1 draw with 13th Place Montpellier coming into this match.
But a club that is averaging 2.75 goals for and 1.25 goals against, they truly are flexing their muscle through Ligue 1 and won’t be knocked off by any team that easily. Especially with a Striker like Falcao who leads the League with 12 goals, and has a 54% goal share of the teams total offense.
On the other side, Lyon is 3-4-1 with a +4 goal difference, and is technically only 1 win away from a top 4 spot in the table. But with only 1 win in their last 6 matches and averaging nearly a 2 to 2 goal score per match, they aren’t exactly taking Ligue 1 by storm. Where they may see their biggest advantage over Monaco is that their offense is more diverse, with Mariano and Fekir both in the top 10 scorers in the league. Still, their defense seems too porous to sustain against the 2nd place powerhouse.
Lyon 1 – 3 Monaco
While I think Lyon will give Monaco their 10th goal against on the year, they don’t hold a candle to last years Ligue 1 champs. Not while Falcao out-scores both Lyon’s top offensive threats combined.
Look for Monaco (2.70), over 2.5 goals (1.44), and both teams to score (1.40) all to hit.Bet Now!
