Two weeks in and newly promoted club Newcastle United and West Ham United are already getting thrashed around, proving that the Premier League is just a different beast. With West Ham coming off a Carabao Cup win on Wednesday, who has the upper hand in this Matchup?

Newcastle United – (13/10)

West Ham – (2/1)

Draw – (12/5)

Goal Over/Under – 2.5
               Over – (19/10)
            Under – (19/10)

Both Teams to Score
                Yes – (7/10)
              No – (21/20)

So far this season has not been kind to either club. Last year’s 11th seeded team West Ham sits at the bottom of the table having scored 2 goals but allowing 7 in two games. Newcastle hasn’t scored at all but right now sits outside a relegation position because their goal difference is -3, where Crystal Palace and Brighton are both -4.

A year ago West Ham United couldn’t muster a single double digit goal scorer, and so far this season has both their goals coming from new Bayern Levursken signing Chicharito. They’re hoping that he and fellow signee Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City can inject some offense into a club that only managed a -17 goal difference last season. So far that seems to be paying off, save for the 7 goals allowed.

On the other end, Newcastle United managed to destroy Championship with 85 goals and allowing the fewest with 40, a difference of +45. So whats the problem so far? It seems to be stars Matt Richie and Dwight Gayle can’t translate their talents to higher competition. Where the two combine for 35 goals a year ago, the most notable plays they’ve made these past two weeks have been Ritchie’s two yellows, and Gayle’s turning the ball over almost 50% of the time he touches it.

It’s important to also note neither man scored against lesser competition Nottingham Forest in their 3-2 Carabao Cup loss.

West Ham 2 – 0 Newcastle United

Newcastle is just going to have a rough season and be sent down to Championship, it’s as simple as that. For West Ham, the addition of two young offensive talents should add to their totals from a year ago, and this is the perfect opponent to start scoring on.
